24th biennial PIMA convention to commence at Peshawar tomorrow

Peshawar, 1st April 2016: The two-day 24th biennial convention of “Pakistan Islamic Medical Association” (PIMA) will be started here at Peshawar Medical College from 2nd April, this will the largest gathering of health professionals in Pakistan, more than 3,000 senior consultants, surgeons and physicians are expected to attend this event.

According to a press release, PIMA spokesman said that special sessions on health advocacy, health policy, and medical education will be conducted by the medical experts from all over the world including America, Malaysia, Jordan and Sudan.

Special session on polio eradication is scheduled on the 1st day of the convention, which will be presided by honorable Governor Khyber Pakhronkhwa, Mr Iqbal Zafar Jhgra, Provincial Health Minister, Mr Shahram Khan Tarakai, WHO representative Dr Zubair Wadood and Dr Musa Nooruddin from Malaysia are among the guest speakers.

In the inaugural session, executive director of “Federation of Islamic Medical Associations” (FIMA) will deliver the “Thematic Talk”. At this moment, Prof Hafeez ur Rehman and Dr Syed Mubeen Akhtar will be awarded the FIMA Lifetime Achievement Award for their medical relief services for the deserving humanity around the globe.

Mr Anayatullah khan, Senior Provincial minister will be the chairman of third session of the day. In the session, PIMA President Prof Sohail Akhtar will present the Phrma relation guidelines, for promotion of medical ethics; it is first time in the history of any medical organization. There will be also highlighted the issues faced by doctors’ community.

In a joint statement, Chairman PIMA Convention Dr Abdul Aziz Zia and Secretary Dr Abdul Samad said that over 70 experts will present their research papers and deliver lectures during 10 scientific and 4 plenary sessions of the two-day convention. “This will be an ample opportunity for the participants to increase their professional knowledge”, they added.

At this occasion PIMA members will also elect the PIMA “Central President” and members of “Executive Council” for the next two years through secret ballot.
