He served at Al-Aqsa Hospital in central Gaza for two weeks. This hospital, comprising 200 beds, was accommodating a burden of 700 patients due to the prevailing conditions.

Speaking in an online session arranged by PIMA on Sunday, April 7, he mentioned that the hospital receives between 1200 to 1500 emergency cases daily, including patients with various injuries such as head and chest trauma, amputations due to explosions, and other injuries to different body parts. There is a severe shortage of medications, with the limited available drugs mostly brought by medical teams from abroad.

He emphasized that during his stay, he was deeply impressed by the resilience, determination, hope, and love for their homeland among the Palestinians. Their struggle lies between achieving martyrdom or reclaiming their homeland. While individuals may dream, as a nation, their collective vision is clear that Jerusalem (Al-Quds) is ours, and there can be no compromise on it.

Dr. Hussain highlighted that Gaza is suffering from the worst bombing, lack of water and food, destruction of infrastructure on one side, and yet, amidst this, it stands as an example of resilience. Even non-Muslim doctors in the medical teams there express feeling more comfort and peace than at home.

He mentioned that despite the challenging circumstances, health facilities are functioning due to the sacrifices and faith of the medical staff. However, without external assistance, the healthcare system cannot sustain itself for long. The government of Pakistan can play a crucial role in this regard. Field hospitals within Gaza and on the Rafah border are urgently needed. Firstly, the war should be stopped, and then massive steps should be taken to restore the infrastructure. The session concluded with the remarks of Central President PIMA Dr. Abdul Aziz Memon. The session was moderated by Central General Secretary Dr. Iftikhar Burney, while other panelists included former Central President PIMA Dr. Sohail Akhtar, in-charge media Dr. Muhammad Salim Ghouri, and emergency medicine specialist Dr. Abdul Salam.

Dr. Bilal Hussain Piracha, a Pakistani-American emergency medicine specialist, has returned after providing medical services in Gaza.
