FIMA Council Meeting 2019

Islamabad, 3 August 2019: The 36th Council meeting of the Federation of Islamic Medical Associations (FIMA) was held in Uganda on 22-23 July 2019. A 3-member delegation from Pakistan led by Prof Hafeezur Rahman, participated in this meeting. Prof Hafeezur Rahman, who is also the Executive Director FIMA, presented the ED report, FIMA Save Vision Report, Al-khidmat Report and update on preparation of FIMA Council meeting 2020 at Islamabad. Prof Tanveerul Hasan Zubairi, ex-president FIMA, presented PIMA report and report on FIMA Newsletter.

Prof Ihsan Karaman from Hayat Foundation, Turkey was re-elected as the FIMA President for another term of two years. Five new associate members including Rohingya Doctors Association in Saudi Arabia; Union of Egyptian Medical Professions; Medics Worldwide; Malawi Islamic Medical Association (MIMA) and Kibuli Muslim Hospital of Kampala Uganda were formally inducted in FIMA family.

A new project ‘FIMA Surgical Training for Africa’ was approved by the Council. A Task Force has been formed for implementation, consisting of Prof. Mohammad Yusseof from Egypt, Dr. Mahmoud from Kibuli Hospital and Prof. Hafeezur Rahman from PIMA.

Dr. Ashraf Jedaar of IMASA was nominated for ‘Dr. Aly Mishal Lifetime Achievement Award’. The award ceremony will be held at the 37th Council meeting in Islamabad in early April 2020, In sha Allah.

FIMA Council Meeting was also attended by Director General Health of Uganda and Saudi Arabia, Ambassador of US in Uganda and many other high officials in addition to representatives of IMAs of 20 different countries.
