Islamabad, 31 December 2020: Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) announced launching of an extended countrywide awareness campaign with regard to prevention of Corona. The public has been informed that until a vaccine is unavailable, the only effective way to prevent corona was to wear a mask.
In a statement on Thursday, President, PIMA Islamabad Dr Iftikhar Burney warned that a steady increase in corona patients was being seen on a daily basis. Despite this, he said, the attitude of the general public towards wearing masks and following SOPs was very disappointing and painful. Because of this frivolous behavior, he said we were endangering the lives of our own loved ones. He further said so far, doctors and paramedics had proved themselves to be benefactors of the nation by serving the sick day and night but now the time had come for them to leave hospitals and go to the masses to spread awareness of the new situation which was more dangerous. “Until the anti-corona virus vaccine is available to the general public there can be no excuse for the masses to stop following standard operation producers (SOPs) and other safety measures to curb the virus’s spread.” He announced that doctors will now distribute masks to the public in markets and shopping centers across the country and educate them about the importance of wearing masks, social distancing and following SOPs. He said, in Islamabad, this activity will be held at Abpara Market at 3 pm on 2nd January.
