PIMA welcomed smoking ban in Sindh

Karachi, 15 April 2015: PIMA has welcomed the announcement of Sindh Government to ban smoking, pan and gutka in Sindh government and semi govt. offices and hopes necessary measures will be taken to ensure the enforcement of tobacco control laws. Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) spokesman welcomed the recent notification of the Sindh chief secretary, Muhammad Sidiq Memon in this regard on Saturday and said that smoking is not only harmful for human health but also carries strong negative moral values. “PIMA is itself striving to raise awareness among masses and discourage its use by national level anti smoking drives”, he mentioned. PIMA urges all heads of institutions, especially educational and health, to strengthen the government’s action by enforcing this in their organizations, as one notification can not bring about change unless society at large is not willing to act sensibly. The smoking ban is aimed largely to save the health of non smokers and also to discourage the use of tobacco in general.
