Thousands of doctors, healthcare professionals and paramedics staged a rally on Stadium Road to express solidarity with the people of Palestine and condemn atrocities of Israel against civilians of Gaza.
The event, White Coat March, was organised by different associations of doctors and healthcare professionals.
Wearing white coats, the participants, including women and young students, started their rally on main Stadium Road near the Aga Khan University Hospital.
Chanting slogans and carrying placards against Israeli barbarism, the protesteres also condemned the silence of the United Nations and world powers against the Israeli atrocities.
Addressing the participants of the march, caretaker Sindh Health Minister Dr Saad Khalid Niaz said: `As a healthcare professional I can feel the helplessness of Palestinian civilians who are facing Israeli bombardment but don`t even have any health facility left for treating their wounded.
`Any civilised nation cannot stay silent on these atrocities. Doctors have always been in the forefront for the care of humanity and those who are victims. We as Pakistani doctors cannot become the slave of our interests and stay silent.
We will keep raising our voice against this barbarism,` he declared.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman also delivered a speech. He questioned the role of the rulers of Islamic countries and accused them of supporting Israel through their silence.
`The people of Palestine and Hamas haven`t only exposed Israel and its atrocities but also those so-called Muslim rulers who have failed the Ummah,` he said.
Prof Abdullah Muttaqi of the Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) and Dr Abdul Ghafoor Shoro of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) paid tributes to healthcare professionals for coming out in large number in support of the cause of humanity.
Prof. Jamal Raza of the Pakistan Pediatric Association (PPA), Dr. Aziza Anjum of the PIMA Women Wing, Dr. Omer Sultan of the Young Doctors Association (YDA), Dr. Razia Korejo of the Society of Obstetricians & Gynecologists of Pakistan (SOGP), Dr Nasir of the Pakistan Dental Association, Dr Fakhir Raza of the Imamia Medics International (IMI), Dr. Umaima of the Pakistan Pharmacists Association, Prof. Aisha Mehnaz, Ex professor Dow University of Health Sciences and Dr. Azra Rafiq also spoke.
The participants also passed a resolution demanding an immediate end to human rights violation, bombing of civilian areas, especially healthcare institutions by Israel. It also asked the Muslim rulers to exert their political, economic and military powers to stop `Zionist aggression`.
