Health and Hygiene Promotion Project of PIMA KPK

Peshawar, 1st July 2016: PIMA KPK has initiated “health and hygiene promotion project” for control of water borne diseases and to promote proper hygiene practices in the light of Quran and Sunnah. This project has been launched in Landi Daudizai (the disaster vulnerable community living on river bank) Peshawar. Topics covered included personal, domestic, food and environmental Hygiene.

Eleven hygiene sessions were conducted for primary students in their schools on 27-28 June 2016.

PIMA team highlighted the importance of drinking clean water and purification methods i.e. boiling and solar disinfection of water. Students were told through practical about hand washing at critical times, practical demonstration of hand washing through approved six steps of WHO including importance of toothpaste and Maswaak, cutting of nails once a week, taking bath on daily basis, changing clothes after every two days, proper cutting of hair, proper disposal of garbage, covering of stagnant water with mud or sand, proper covering of food stuff and utensils, the use of latrine and discouraging open air defecation, washing of vegetables before cooking, fruits before eating and boiling of milk before drinking. A total of 262 students attended these sessions.

Earlier, 36 sessions were conducted separately from 31 May to 29 June 2016 attended by 549 people. Participants were also provided 350 health and hygiene kits at this occasion.
