ALL ABOUT PAIN

CME section of Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) arranged a series of symposia on “All About Pain” in 5 different cities during August – October 2017. These unique concept events were coordinated by Dr Azeemuddin, ex-president PIMA Karachi, under supervision of Prof Hafiz Ijaz Ahmad, in charge CME PIMA center. The programs were held at Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Lahore and Rawalpindi and keenly attended by hundreds of doctors and students. The topics included in these CMEs were similar in each center with different speakers. They covered different aspects of pain management, virtually from head to toe! And included interactive panel discussion on low back pain. Topics were:
What’s new in headache treatment?
Dysmenorrhea, premenstrual migraine: treatment challenges,
Non-pharmacological management of acute musculoskeletal disorders
How to manage neuropathic pain
Chronic Arthritides: Indications for surgery.

 

KARACHI

First CME seminar was held at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center’s auditorium on 20 August 2017. Faculty included Dr Aziz Sonawala, consultant neurologist AKUH; Dr Nadeem Zubairi, associate professor OBGY, AKUH; Dr Mujahid Jamil, Assistant Professor Orthopedics AKUH; Dr Muhammad Saad Khan, Physical Therapy Physician AKUH; Dr Gauhar Afshan, Professor of Anesthesia AKUH; and Dr Safia Zafar, Professor and Head of Anesthesia CHK. Dr Atif Hafeez Sidiqi, President PIMA Karachi and Dr Syed Ahmer Hamid, in charge CME, PIMA Karachi were the hosts.

 

PESHAWAR

The second program was held at Peshawar Medical College on 14 September 2017. This program was addressed by Prof Muhammad Subhan, Head of department of Medicine PMC; Prof Tehniyat Ishaque, head of department of Obs & Gynea PMC; Dr Mahmood ul Hassan, Head of department of Orthopedics PMC; Dr Mohammad Bin Afsar Jan, Principal Physical Therapy, RMI; and Dr Ibrar Ahmad, Assistant Professor & Consultant Endocrinologist LRH.

 

QUETTA

Third program was held at PGMI Hall, Sandeman Provincial Hospital Quetta on 23 September 2017. Ex-president PIMA Dr Attaur Rehman initiated the seminar by his talk on ‘pain in the perspective of Quran and Sunnah’. Speakers on the prescribed topics included Prof Lal M. Kakar, Prof Ayesha Siddiqa, Prof G. Rasool, Prof Sabiha Shujahat and Prof Dr Amatullah. Program was also addressed by Dr Muhammad Shah Kakar, President PIMA Balochistan and Prof Mujeebullah Tareen, head of department of Cardiology, Bolan Medical College.

 

LAHORE

Fourth program was held at Sheikh Zaid Hospital, Lahore on 28 September 2017. Prof Muhammad Ikram, Head Department of Gynae and Obs SZH chaired the session while Prof Farid Ahmad Khan, Chairman and Dean SZH was the chief guest. Speakers included Prof Ehsan Nauman, Head of Neurology Department PGMI / LGH; Prof Amatullah Zareen, Head of Gynecology Department AIMC; Prof Pervez Iqbal, Head of the Orthopedics Department SZH; Dr Fariha Shah, Head of Physiotherapy Department, Fatima Memorial Hospital College of Medicine and Dentistry; and Dr Syed Mehmood Ali, Assistant Professor of Anesthesia SZH. Prof Hafiz Ijaz Ahmad was the chairperson of the program.

 

RAWALPINDI

Last program of the series was held at Islamic International Medical College Rawalpindi on 12 October 2017. Speakers included Dr Hasnain Hashim, consultant Neurologist; Dr Fareesa Waqar, HOD Gynae/Obs IIMC; Brig Muhammad Saleem, Professor of Anesthesia; Brig Muhammad Farooq Kharak, HOD Medicine IIMC; and Brig Mushtaq Ahmad, Rheumatologist Military Hospital. Prof Muhammad Tahir was the moderator. Lt Gen Azhar Rasheed, Principal IIMC congratulated PIMA for organizing this successful and a very relevant program to most of the doctors.
