Services of renowned hematologist Dr Tahir Shamsi remembered

Karachi, 23 December 2021: Members of Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) paid rich tributes to renowned hematologist Prof. Dr. Tahir Sultan Shamsi for his professional services in a condolence reference here at PIMA House on Thursday, arranged by PIMA Karachi. They said that Dr. Tahir Shamsi not only rendered valuable services in the field of medicine but he was also a very loving, caring and well-mannered person, liked by his colleagues, friends and patients alike.

The condolence reference was presided over by Prof. Dr. Abdullah Muttaqi, President PIMA Karachi. Speakers included Dr. Shahid Noor, Dr. Saqib Ansari, Prof. Dr. Sohail Akhtar, Dr. Kashif Shazli, Dr. Zakiud-Din Ahmed, Dr. Aurangzeb, Dr. Khalid Shafi and Dr. Saeed Akhtar.

Speakers recalled the qualities of Dr. Tahir Shamsi primarily being extremely focused on his work. Bone marrow transplantation in Pakistan was his dream which he fulfilled in 1995 despite very limited resources. He brought great innovations in the treatment of blood-related diseases and introduced patient-friendly atmosphere in his work. He was one of the top researchers in the country and encouraged an atmosphere of research in his institution. He ensured that he train a team of doctors and paramedics who could take his mission forward. He also mentored hundreds of doctors leading to postgraduate diplomas and becoming specialists and serving the country.

Speakers said he was an extraordinary personality, lived a very cohesive and organized life. They prayed for his forgiveness and patience for the bereaved.
